It seems like a “duh” moment now, but safety wasn’t always a priority in the workplace or on the roads. Remember back before seat belts, GFCI outlets, and OSHA? Safety was a reaction to a problem not a forethought. In some instances that is still the case but it is more sensible to think about risks and problems before they happen. One organization, the National Safety Council makes it their mission to raise awareness of the idea that “safety is no accident.”

Since it is June and we are talking about safety, our personal area of expertise is the safe use of electrical devices. Ever since electricity was invented, people have been getting hurt. Preventing electrical shock is a top priority in systems running on high voltages and amp. In the 1990s there was a successful push for electrical safety regulations. These regulations have prevented accidental deaths due to electrocution. When safety systems are in place and used properly, that’s when people are protected.

In response to regulations, we developed the Safety Lock Series that permits safe handling Safety Lock Image 1of powerful electrical connections. Proper power distribution is the prime issue for safety. Controlling the power through a “first-in/last out” ground safety feature makes it difficult to improperly connect any power until connection between the ground and neutral has been made. There is no easy way to tamper with or bypass this system as the ground and neutral connections cannot be disconnected until all other power lines are disconnected. This system can be used in the field or in stationary panel boards and no special tools or maintenance is required.

The safety lock power distribution system from Connectronics meets military specifications and has been proven reliable under severe conditions. This system offers protection when using permanent, temporary, or emergency electrical connections such as in generators, film or sports lighting, construction, military operations, or carnivals.

In honor of safety month, remember that when using powerful electrical devices it’s safety first! Contact Connectronics to learn more about our products and services.

In our February 2016 post we mentioned that the aerospace, military, and high-tech Connectronics Facility Expansion Blog Image 1industries are growing rapidly and we are happy to report that Connectronics’ specialized connectors are following suit, keeping up in high demand!

Last fall we brought a new molding machine onto the production line to provide the high-power capabilities we need to help us keep up with orders for rubber insulators and molded components. With the extension of the new machine it was clear that we needed additional physical space for our operations. As a result, we have invested in the construction of a new building to increase capabilities.

Between Connectronics and Wiremax, we currently have 28,000 ft of operational space. Connectronics Facility Expansion Blog Image 2The new facility will add approximately 18,000 square feet. This continued work space adds more capacity, storage, and flexibility in meeting the increasing demands for our products.

Overseeing the construction is local contractor Dunipace Building. The work is moving along nicely and we expect the building to be complete this coming September.

As the year rolls on we are looking forward to watching the new building take shape and the continued success of the products and industries we serve. Stay tuned for the next update and contact us in regards to any questions you might have!

Responding to the needs of our customers and the industries we serve, Connectronics isPush pull connector image - Feb. 2016announcing the release of a new product—the Connectronics PNP Series connectors. This new connector is a product line extension of the High Voltage Lead (HVL) Assemblies ½ series.

As part of our Push N Pull connector series, the new PNP connectors offer a push-pull quick coupling mechanism that holds the connectors in a fully mated condition by use of a canted coil spring. The mated connectors have an operating voltage rating of 10 KVDC through extreme temperature ranges (-55°C to +125°C) and altitudes (to 70,000 ft.).

Although small in size, these lightweight connectors provide extreme reliability and peak performance in applications such as CRT/displays, power supplies, radar, lasers, medical equipment, and ECM equipment. This series does not permit field assembly, so lengths of cable/wire need to be specified prior to ordering.

Fighter pilots are a rare and specialized group of airmen. They work in conditions that Night Vision Goggle Image Nov. 2015would put most of us under: supersonic speeds, gravitational forces, and split-second decision making. The tools they rely on to help them do their jobs are designed with cutting edge technology and state of the art components. Our specialized connectors and interconnection systems are integral parts of many of the innovative electronic equipment used throughout the defense industry.

One such specialized electronic system is found in pilot helmets. Pilots flying fighter jets rely on technology known as the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems (JHMCS) for targeting and firing weapons. The system incorporates a heads-up display (HUD) that is projected onto the pilot’s visor to cue weapons and sensor the target. A magnetic head tracker and display are synchronized with aircraft sensors to aim and fire a missile where the pilot is looking. Flight information is continuously displayed on the inside of the helmet visor for the pilot to monitor incoming data.

While this system is ideal during daylight hours, cueing the system at night was a problem. To upgrade the current system with night vision technology, the Department of Defense has contracted for JHMCS Night Vision Cueing and Display (NVCD) systems in support of the Aircrew Systems program. We were awarded a contract to supply the cables for this new system and are extremely proud to be affiliated with the defense industry and this project.

Connectronics comes to the project being very familiar with working with the defense industry. Through our long history we have gained the expertise to engineer and manufacture specialized electronic connectors that consistently meet the requirements of tough defense industry regulations and military standards. Our innovative solutions reliably perform in the harshest environmental conditions (high altitudes, g-forces, extreme temperatures). Engineering expertise combined with manufacturing excellence ensures delivery of consistently high-quality components.

As a supplier of the connectors for the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) Night Vision Cueing and Display (NVCD) system being developed, we continue our mission of delivering the power to keep “all systems a-go” for our fearless pilots!

On the first Friday in October the U.S. celebrates National Manufacturing Day. That Manufacturing Day Imagebeing said, we have a lot to celebrate in the manufacturing industry 2015. Manufacturing Day is “a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers […] Although Manufacturing Day officially occurs on the first Friday in October… any day can be a Manufacturing Day.”

NAM (the National Association of Manufacturers) declares that hundreds of Manufacturing Day events were planned this year. As in previous years, Manufacturing Day events celebrate what’s happening in all types of industries, and the events planned for the day offer the next generation of workers an insider’s view of what’s happening behind the scenes. There’s a lot going on in U.S. manufacturing this year, including re-shoring, more manufacturing jobs, exciting careers, and the possible start of “the next industrial revolution!”

A recent TechCrunch article reports, “The ‘Industrial Internet’ is poised to overhaul the way companies manufacture goods, in turn changing our everyday interactions with products.” Sounds futuristic and exciting, doesn’t it?!

There’s more about manufacturing that everyone can be excited about right now, like reshoring and the increase of jobs. Recently, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that manufacturers added 15,000 new workers in July. This is the fastest pace in six months and offered evidence that activity in the manufacturing sector is growing.

Reshoring is also happening at a rapid pace, and it’s a win-win for everyone here in the U.S. Forbes reported that “the data shows that U.S. factories have become more competitive in recent years; offshoring is fading and reshoring is making gains.” More U.S. companies who have previously outsourced overseas are moving their manufacturing operations back to the U.S. Thankfully, Connectronics has been on the receiving end of reshoring and we’re experiencing the benefits first-hand. Several of our customers have brought their work back to us, and back to the U.S., after outsourcing to other countries.

Yes, manufacturers and close-knit industries have a lot to celebrate on Manufacturing Day this year! Our blog today focuses on only several reasons to celebrate; however, there is so much more to be proud of and celebrate in the industry! As manufacturers of specialized connectors and interconnection systems for all types of industries, all of us at Connectronics will be celebrating too.

Happy Manufacturing Day from Connectronics!
